Cartoon ghost tattoo on shoulder
Neo-trad · Shoulder · Colour · Photo
A cartoon ghost with a round body and a shy pose, covering its face with one hand and showing a pink blush, sits on the skin with three pale mint splashes above it. The thick black outlines are smooth and even, with soft lavender shading along the lower body and hatched pink marks on the cheek. The photograph has pink hearts and sparkles added as decorative overlays around the tattoo.

Nobody in Scarrow Bay minded the moaning under the pier so much as the way it stopped the moment a lantern swung round. Dennis Coe swore he had seen it three nights running, a round grey thing bobbing against the piles, and every time he lifted his light it clapped one hand over its face and went pink as a boiled prawn.

Hetty Vane, who mended nets for four boats and had no patience for ghosts, took the lantern down herself on a Tuesday. She set it on the bottom step, sat on an upturned crate and simply looked. The ghost peeped out between two fingers. Hetty folded her arms. "You're keeping the crabbers awake," she said. "And it's bad for the gulls."
The ghost sank an inch lower in the water and gave a small, sorry sort of wail that sounded like a kettle thinking about it. Hetty pulled a paper bag from her coat and tipped out two ginger biscuits, which she dropped in the shallows. Something round and lavender-grey rose to take them, covered its face again, peeked, then took both.
By the spring the Scarrow boats were coming home on the tide with their holds full, because whenever the mist came down thick the ghost would sit on the bottom step and bob its head, very politely, towards the harbour mouth. Hetty still didn't care for ghosts. But she left the lantern on the bottom step every night, just in case somebody needed to be looked at properly.
