Realistic grey tattoo of a cat's head with pale blue eyes and pink nose and inner ears, on the outer forearm.

Cat head with blue eyes on a forearm

Realism · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

A cat's head faces three-quarters to the viewer, with soft grey shading across the fur, dark stripes on the forehead and cheeks, and fine whiskers extending past the outline. The eyes are the main colour, a pale blue, with small pink accents on the nose and inner ears. The design sits centred on the forearm against plain skin and a red top.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Mrs Hoyle had kept the gatehouse at Caerdon for forty years, and the grey cat had kept it longer, or so she liked to say. Nobody in the village knew where it came from. It turned up in the snow the winter the chapel roof fell in, a thin thing with a torn ear and eyes the colour of a swimming pool tile, and it sat on the cold step as though it had been sent to inspect the place and found it wanting.

The man from the council arrived in March with a clipboard and a tape measure. He wanted the curtain wall down before the summer visitors came, and he measured the broken arch twice while the cat watched him from the top of a fallen column. Each morning after that it climbed the spiral stair to the keep and sat on the parapet, watching the valley road, and each evening it came down again to see whether the surveyor had got on with his work.

In April the river came up over the ford in a single night. Dafydd Price, who had stayed late to finish his notes, found his van nosing into fog at the bottom of the lane, and the headlamps showed him nothing but water. Then a pale shape stepped out onto the road ahead of him and sat down, tail wrapped neatly over its feet, and did not move. He waited with the engine running until the flood dropped back off the tarmac, and only then did he see how far the bridge had sagged.

His report ran to nine pages. The last line recommended that the gatehouse stay standing. Underneath, in a smaller hand, he added that the cat was to be fed at the council's expense. Mrs Hoyle read it pinned to the gate and laughed until she had to sit down on the step beside the cat, which did not look up.
