Black fine line tattoo of a city skyline with a tall spire and a pitched-roof building on the inside of a forearm.

City skyline outline on a forearm

Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

The tattoo shows a city skyline drawn as a single black outline, with a tall spired tower near the centre and a smaller pitched-roof building at the right end. The lines are thin and even, with no shading, and the design sits across the forearm against plain pale skin on a dark background. The image is a close, straight-on view with the tattoo filling most of the frame.

Dear Tom, the 17:42 is late again, so I am writing this on the back of a timetable while the man beside me eats chips out of the paper. You will laugh, but I have started counting the towers. From platform four you can pick out the tall spire over the cathedral close, then the squat grey block where the bank used to be, then the three stepped roofs that the council keeps promising to pull down. Mum says it looks like someone drew it in one go without lifting the pen, and I think she is right, which is annoying.

I went up to the viewing gallery on Thursday, the one with the sticky rail, because I wanted to see if the skyline looked the same from above. It did not. From up there the outline is just a line, a long thin thing with nothing inside it, and I stood there wondering which of the windows was the one you were always pointing at when you said you could see the station from your flat. I never did find it. I am sorry about the row, by the way. I should have answered the phone.

The train is in now, so I will post this at the next stop. If you ever come back through, meet me on four at six. I will be the one pretending not to look for the spire. Love, Jo.

P.S. The little pitched-roof building at the far end is still there. I checked. Someone has painted a bird on the gable.
