Clasped hands and heart with flowers on a forearm
Traditional · Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows two hands clasped together in front of a red heart with a scalloped lace border, and a gold ring is visible on one finger. Two orange and red flowers with teal leaves sit at the lower sides of the heart. Bold black outlines, solid red and teal fills and soft grey shading give it a classic flash look, photographed against a textured grey background.

Dear Tom, the snow shut the Coach and Horses road on Tuesday and it has not reopened since, so you will have to take my word for everything. Mrs Pennock has pinned the lace curtains across the taproom window to keep the draught out, and the lamp oil is down to its last bottle. Ida, who walked up from the village to help with the beds, has been humming the same hymn for three days until even the dog has started to sulk.

Last night a traveller came in off the moor, a tall man with a surveyor's case and frost in his eyebrows. He sat close to the fire and turned his wedding ring round and round, the way you used to worry the brass button on your coat when you wanted to ask Father for something. He said his wife had promised to wait at the crossroads until the thaw. I told him to hold his hands out to the grate. He did, and I saw that the ring on his finger had worn thin on one side, as if it had been turned a great many times.
This morning the lane was clear as far as the milestone. He settled his bill in silver, left the case behind for collection, and asked me to give you a folded square of paper, though he has never met you. Inside, in pencil, were two hands drawn clasped together in front of a heart with a scalloped edge, and a few flowers at the bottom. I don't know what it means. Perhaps it was only something to pass the time.
I have put the paper in the tin with the spare candle ends. If the thaw comes and the coach runs, come and fetch it yourself, and bring the good ink. The fire is lit every night now, and I have stopped counting the days aloud.
