Dev found him first, at the far end of the lawn where the bunting gave out. The arrow had worked loose from its wire and was lying in the hydrangeas. He crouched, picked it up and turned it over. Someone had written on the shaft in marker: for whoever is next. He could have pocketed it and gone back to the bar. Instead he carried it across the grass to the cake table, where Margaret's grandson was hunched over a slice of lemon drizzle with the concentration of a surgeon. "This yours?" Dev asked. The boy shrugged. "I was going to see if it hurt." "Not today," Dev said, and handed it over, and watched the boy tuck it under one arm like a sword, already searching the crowd for someone to point it at.
