Realistic black and grey Dalek tattoo with teal dome lights and an Exterminate banner, set against a radiating line pattern on the upper arm.

Dalek with Exterminate banner on upper arm

Realism · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo

A Dalek from Doctor Who fills the centre of the tattoo, with a ribbon banner across its base reading EXTERMINATE. The Dalek is shaded in greys with a bold outline and small teal-blue dome lights, and a radiating line pattern sits behind it. The photograph is taken close up, with the design filling most of the frame.

Sit down, sit down, the porridge will keep, and so will I. You'll want to hear about Mrs Vosper's back bedroom, the one over the groyne, because that's where the tin gentleman lodged the summer of the big fog. Nobody knew his name. He paid in pennies he'd polished so bright you could see the gaslight in them, and he signed the register with a single letter, which Mrs Vosper thought a fair enough name for a lodger who never came down to breakfast.

He had a dome on his shoulders the colour of wet slate, and round the foot of him ran a skirt of studs, each with a little blue light that woke when the tide turned. Every evening he rolled to the window, lifted the blind with one flat hand, and counted the boats in. The fishermen's wives swore he could see through fog. Alf Crane, the lamplighter, said he once watched him stand in the shallows for an hour while the gulls sat on his head like he was a rock that had lost its way.

The trouble started when the Pettigrew boys nicked a strip of brass tape from a shop on the front and wound it round his base as a jape. Next morning there was a word stamped along it, one word, and the boys went quiet for a week. Mrs Vosper took his tea up on the Thursday and found the room empty, the window open, and the sea laid flat as a tablecloth. Only the tape was left, folded square on the sill, the letters still bright enough to read from the yard: EXTERMINATE.

So you'll understand why Mrs Vosper never lets anyone sleep in that room. Some nights, when the tide's on the turn, you can see one blue light blinking out past the breakwater, counting the boats in, and nobody has ever once been able to tell me whether it's coming home or just checking we're all still here.
