Dragonfly over water splash
Other · Colour · Photo
A small dragonfly with a green body and translucent teal wings rests above a splash of teal water with droplets. The linework is soft and the wings are shaded with blue and green washes. The tattoo sits alone in the centre-left of the frame against plain, smooth skin.

Mr Abney from the signal box said they were called horse-stingers when he was a boy, which was rubbish, because they neither sting nor bite. He said plenty of things were rubbish when he said them. I watched it dart to the far bank and come back, three times, always to the same patch of ripples.
The lost property cupboard in the ticket office holds a glove, two umbrellas and a letter addressed to a Mrs Hale. I have never opened it. On Friday I wrote a reply anyway, folded it small and walked it down to the pond, pressing it under a flat stone at the water's edge where the dragonfly likes to settle, because somebody ought to answer the question.
