Eeyore and butterfly on the wrist
Forearm · Colour · Photo
A small cartoon-style tattoo of Eeyore sits on the inner wrist, shown in a close photograph of the forearm and hand. The donkey has blue fur, a purple tail with a pink bow, and a yellow butterfly is placed above his head. The linework is clean and the colours are soft and layered, with a dark tail tip at the bottom of the design.

Nobody on the Thornwick road expected the donkey to keep a butterfly, least of all the donkey. Every morning since the thaw it had landed on the crown of his head, a yellow scrap no bigger than a thumbnail, and every morning he sighed the sigh of a creature who had been promised a better day and given a Tuesday instead.

"It's going to rain," he told it. "It always rains on Tuesdays. Somebody should have mentioned that when they invented the days." The butterfly said nothing, which he counted in its favour. Mrs Pargeter, who kept the inn at the top of the pass, said it was the only thing on the mountain that ever listened to him, and she didn't blame it for staying put.
Then came the gale off the scree that took his tail clean away, the purple one with the pink bow his old owner had tied on for the autumn fair. He searched the gorse until dusk and found only the bow, snagged on a blackthorn like a lost handkerchief. He stood in the rain with his bare end to the weather and told nobody that he was miserable, which was how everybody knew.
Next morning the butterfly was waiting on his ear, and beside it lay a length of grey baling twine the donkey had been too proud to ask for. The butterfly dropped down, knotted the bow back onto the stub of him, then climbed to his head to inspect the work. "Crooked," said the donkey. "Lovely," said the butterfly, and for the first time since the thaw, the donkey agreed that Tuesday was not so bad after all.
