Fine line triangle on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small, thin-lined black tattoo of an open triangle with a short internal line sits on the inner forearm, with a small ring of short dashes below and to the left. The linework is crisp and even, and the design is in black ink only. The skin is shown in soft light against a grey backdrop, with a dark patterned sleeve at the left and a grey sleeve at the top.

He kept it on the windowsill, a three-sided prism no bigger than a matchbox. Every Thursday he'd lift it to the sun and the light would break across the bench in a little fan of colour, and somebody always got the ring of dashes thrown onto the wall like a clock face. Mind, half of you were looking at the ceiling. Not Margaret. Margaret sat with her chin on her fist and watched that glass as if it owed her money.
The summer her dad lost his job at the mill, she came in one morning with the box in her blazer pocket and said she'd borrowed it for good. Abbott didn't shout. He stood at the window with his hands behind his back and said, 'Then you'd better learn what it does before you go.' So she did. Every dinner hour for a month she sat with it at the glass, drawing the triangle it made on her paper, and one short stroke for the place where the light turned inside.
On the last afternoon she put the box back on the bench without a word. Abbott opened it, found the drawing folded underneath, and tucked it into the lid. Go on, somebody hold something up to the window. Watch the wall. There's the ring of dashes, right where it always was.
