I have kept the cutting you asked for, the old ivy from Dad's wall in Penzance. It has grown far past anything he would have allowed. It climbs the frame in one unbroken line, leaves overlapping like the scales on a fish, and every tendril curls back on itself as if it is listening for something.

The nursery man in Hayle said ivy this old never wants to be moved, and he was right.
