Flowers and leaves on a forearm
Botanical · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a trailing sprig of long, narrow leaves that runs up the forearm and ends in two open flowers with rounded petals. The linework is dark and fairly bold, with soft grey shading inside the petals and along the stems to give depth. The design is entirely black and grey and fills the arm diagonally, with the wrist and a grey knit sleeve visible at the edges of the frame.

She said nothing about the telegram.

The sprig of rosemary she pressed between two pages of the almanac, the narrow leaves gone brown at the tips. She had picked it from the bed by the chapel, where their mother had insisted on it for remembrance, though their mother was dead now and the bed had gone to thistle. Margit folded the rosemary into the letter with the cosmos heads, two of them, their petals still pink at the centre, and she pressed the fold flat with her thumb.
The postmistress, Ada Penhale, weighed the parcel and frowned at the lumps in it. Margit told her it was only flowers. Ada said flowers were the only things anyone sent by the post that didn't have to be signed for, and then she stamped it without asking for the fee, which was the kindest thing anyone in Porthgwidden had done that month.
