Forever script and red apple on an ankle
Lettering · Ankle · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows the word forever in flowing black script with a small solid red apple to its right. The lettering has clean, even linework, and the apple is filled in flat red with a little shading. It sits on the ankle in a close, straight-on photo against a plain pale background.

I went out with the saw and a sack of lime, meaning to do it properly. Yet when I stood beneath the bare branches I could not lift the blade. A novice called Thomas had followed me out, pale in his brown habit, and he asked what the matter was. I told him the tree had been planted the year the first brothers came over the moor, and that every vow spoken in that chapter house had been made in its shade.
Thomas picked a shrivelled apple from a low twig, red as a cold coal. Forever, he said, is a long word for a wall. I laughed, and then I had the saw going before I could change my mind. We split the trunk by the gate, and I kept one crooked limb back. With a penknife I cut the word into its end in a slanting hand, and beside it the small round shape of the fruit.
Spring came and the stump sent up green shoots. The abbot, who had signed the order himself, walked out to look at them. He said nothing. He only pulled his hood low and stood beside me until the bell rang for vespers.
