Matching infinity Friends and Forever wrist tattoos

Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

Two wrists show matching infinity symbol tattoos, each with the word in flowing black script inside the loop. The left reads Friends and has a small red heart above the lettering, while the right reads Forever. The linework is smooth and crisp against the skin, with the two designs placed side by side in a balanced composition.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Mr Ogden had run out of the good red by the time you two got to the heart, so he mixed a drop of something from a jam jar and swore it would hold. You sat on the tatty stool in the back room above Pruett's barber shop, the kettle ticking on its ring, and listened to Edie argue that a heart ought to be the size of a shilling. You said a thumbnail. She laughed at you, which was the point of arguing with her.

The word came easily. Friends had been Edie's idea, written on the back of a seed packet in June, and Forever was yours, because you were eighteen and the coach to Ipswich left at seven the next morning with your suitcase already packed under the bed. Mr Ogden drew the loop first in soft pencil, a lazy figure eight that bent around each wrist, then traced the script inside it with a stub of charcoal so you could both see how the letters sat together.

He started with Edie. She didn't flinch, only pressed her lips into the thin line she saved for Mrs Halloran when the change was short. When it was your turn the needle hummed like a wasp in a jar, and you counted the buzzing to keep from thinking about the platform.

On the train you held your arm against the window, the ink still tender under its cling film. The fields went past in strips of brown and green, and somewhere beyond Colchester you pressed your wrist to the cold glass and pictured her doing the same at the other end of the town, two halves of one loop that the miles could stretch but never open.
