Galaxy-filled triangle on a forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Colour · Photo
An inverted triangle with a thick black outline sits on the inner forearm, filled with a nebula-like scene of blue and purple clouds and small white stars. The shading is soft and blended inside the bold outline, which stays crisp and even. The tattoo is centred on the forearm against a dark sleeve at the top of the frame.

Sit closer, the stove only warms this side of the waiting room. You want the story of Dora Flint and the night the sky came down the line. Back in the hard winter, the junction at Carrowmoor had a signal box perched on the embankment, and Dora was the signalman who kept it. Her lamp was the only light for three miles, and she had a habit of talking to the sky when the trains ran late.

One February the timetable board went dark and the telegraph wire hummed nothing but static. Dora climbed the ladder to the box roof with a tin of matches and a notebook of star names her father had copied from a library book he never returned. She traced the Plough, then the Swan, and found the place where the cloud had split like a torn sleeve. That was when the night mail appeared, a dim lantern rolling toward her out of the dark, and she knew the driver was steering by nothing at all.
She did the only thing a signalman could. She hauled the great iron lever that raised the red inverted triangle on the post, the board that meant stop, and she held it there with both hands while the heavens opened into a wide purple field of stars. The driver braked. The train stood breathing steam into the cold for the length of one long minute, and every passenger leaned to the window to see what had stopped them.
When the wire clicked back to life, the stationmaster demanded to know why she had halted a train on a clear night. Dora only pointed up. And if you walk out onto the platform tonight and look past the water tower, you'll find the gap she left open, still full of blue and violet, still waiting for someone brave enough to hold the lever.
