Gold lips with Kiss Here script
Lettering · Colour · Flash
A gold lips motif with a textured, slightly distressed fill sits above the script words Kiss Here. The design is shown flat on a plain white background with no skin visible. The lips use a stippled, foil-like shading while the lettering is a simple, even script line.

The well at Carrow Dip had been dry since the spring the pit flooded, and Mrs Ada Penhale said it was because the water had got tired of waiting for someone to answer it. Her grandson Tom thought this was nonsense, the sort of thing old women said while shelling peas, but he went up the lane anyway the morning the cage stopped at the shaft head with nobody on it.

The overman had left a tin of gold leaf on the windlass, the kind the chapel used for lettering the names of the dead on the board by the door. Tom knew then where the story was going, though he did not want to. Gold was what they gave a man who had gone down and not come up, to paint his initial on the cage bars so the next crew would know which lamp to look for.
He took the leaf and a squirrel brush and sat on the pump housing. Working by the light off the slag heaps, he painted a pair of lips on the cold iron, pressing the gold on in small stipples so it would catch the light and seem to shift, the way the lamp flames did down the drift. Under them he wrote the only words the dead had ever asked the living for: Kiss Here.
In the morning the well was full to the brim. Ada never said she had told him so, and Tom never said he had not believed her.
