Hallows-style triangle with lightsabers and arrow

Black and grey · Flash

A black ink line drawing on pale paper shows a triangle built from a lightsaber hilt on the left, an arrow on the right and a horizontal lightsaber along the base, with a vertical staff running through a central ring. The ring has segmented, chevron-like markings and the arrow and blade tips meet at the top apex. The linework is uniform and outlined, with light hatching on the hilts and no colour or shading beyond the ink.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The three brothers of Hollin Vale each came to the cider press with a gift for the old woman who kept the orchard gate. The eldest brought a staff of ash, the middle one a bow strung with the tough gut of a red deer, and the youngest brought nothing but a cold stone he had picked from the stream. The old woman laughed at them all and sent them up the hill to fetch the last apples from the top row, the ones the wasps had not yet found.

The top row was hung with fruit so heavy the branches bent to the grass. Each brother pulled what he could reach. The eldest wanted to knock them down with his staff, but the staff struck the trunk and the whole tree shivered and dropped nothing. The middle brother drew his bow and loosed a shaft into the crown, and it came back down with a single apple speared on its point, sweet and whole. The youngest sat under the tree with his stone, turning it, until the wind came up the valley and set the leaves talking to one another, and he understood that the apples were waiting to be asked rather than taken.

When they reached the gate again, the old woman took the apple from the arrow and bit it. Then she laid the stone in the cupped palm of the youngest and said that a ring is only a thing that goes round, and the staff and the bow are only ways of reaching. The three of them walked home down the hill at dusk, carrying the harvest between them in a sack, and nobody spoke of who had brought the best gift.
