Heartbeat heart with faith script
Fine line · Shoulder · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo is a continuous heartbeat trace that forms a small open heart at its left end and runs into the lowercase script word faith. The top panel shows it on bare skin near the shoulder, while the bottom panel shows the same design drawn in ink on paper beside a clear pen. The linework is thin and even in black or dark grey, with no shading or colour, and the composition sits in the upper part of the frame.

Nia Harker had been up the gatehouse stairs since dusk, her torch wedged on the sill so the drum of paper turned in its own small light. The seismograph was her grandfather's, bolted to a slab of Welsh slate that had once been a guardroom floor, and for nine days its pen had drawn nothing but a dead, level line. The county surveyors wanted the keep fenced off as unsafe. Her brother Gethin said the hill had gone quiet years ago and so should she.

At fourteen minutes past two the pen shivered. It drew a small loop first, a rounded shape that opened at one side like a door left ajar, then a sharp spike, then a long calm run of ink that flattened out as though something had finally lain down. Nia held the sheet to the torch. In the margin, in her grandfather's cramped hand and the same faded blue, he had written a single word and underlined it twice: faith. The logbook beside the drum said only, Keep the line going. Whatever the hill does, the paper must show it.
She had no proper pen, only a clear biro from the gatehouse tin, so she traced the spike again on the fresh sheet, pressing hard enough to feel the grooves through the paper. Then she wrote the time, the date and her own initials beneath his, and the wind came up over the wall the way it always did before dawn. The drum turned. The pen waited, and so did she.
