Hello Kitty tattoo on the lower back
Back · Mixed · Photo
A cartoon Hello Kitty face is tattooed on the lower back, with a bold black outline and a pink filled bow on top of the head. The face is mostly left unshaded with whiskers drawn in black, and the skin around it sits above purple underwear printed with white hearts. The photo is taken close up on a pink towel, with the tattoo placed in the centre-right of the frame.

The bell on the last lift quit the winter the white cats came down from the cold ring, so Ilse Varro had to climb the shaft by hand with a lamp in her teeth and a basket of seed-stock on her back. Nobody in Halden Dome had ever seen a cat that size. They were the colour of frost on a window, and each one wore a red ribbon tied in a bow at the top of its head, as if someone had dressed it for a feast and forgotten to tell it the feast was over.

The eldest of them, the grey-whiskered one the children called Mother Bow, would not eat from a bowl. She sat on the edge of the hydroponic tank and watched the water with eyes like two drops of ink. The old folk said she had no mouth because she had nothing to say that the rest of the dome could bear to hear, and the young folk said that was nonsense, she simply had good manners. Ilse fed her anyway, a pinch of barley at a time, and the cat took it without a sound.
When the lift was mended at last and the stock was sealed, the cat walked to the hatch and stopped. She looked back at Ilse, then at the red ribbon that had come loose and lay curled on the floor. Ilse picked it up. It was warm from the lamp. She tied it back on the cat's head, and the cat leaned into her palm the way a door leans when the wind is behind it, and then she went out into the cold ring and did not come back.
The dome still keeps a ribbon in the seed vault, folded in a square of tin. Nobody has tied it on anything since. It is said that if you bring your own lamp to the shaft on the first frost, you will hear a bell ringing somewhere above you, though the lift has long since stopped.
