Collage of black fine line infinity symbol designs with script words and birds, shown as temporary tattoos on a wrist and forearm.

Infinity script temporary tattoo designs

Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Flash

The top half shows six black line designs, each pairing a script word or phrase with an infinity symbol, and some include small silhouetted birds. Two wrists in the lower right show the designs applied as temporary tattoos, with delicate, even linework and no shading. The images are on a plain white background and a grass backdrop, all in black ink.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The rain had come down on the Saturday market since before the stalls were unpacked, so Maud Cutler kept her ribbon under oilcloth and sold only to people who asked twice. A boy came to her trestle with a coin in a wet fist and asked for a length of something that would not end. She told him there was no such thing in the market, only off-cuts and remnants, and he said his sister had sent him for it.

Maud cut a yard of black silk, folded it over and under itself, and pinned the loop with a brass pin. Three sparrows had sat on the awning rope all morning, and when the loop was closed they lifted together and settled again on the cloth. "That's the trick of it," she said. "You fold the end back into the start and nobody can find where it began." The boy asked about the word she had stitched along the loop in thread the colour of ink. She said it was always, because that was what the silk had been bought for.

He paid with the coin and went off up the hill road. At dusk he came back with the same coin, having lost the first in a gutter, and she charged him nothing the second time. His sister, he said, had gone up to the hill farms with her husband and would not be home before the lambing. The ribbon was for her wrist, so she would know the road ran in a circle too and she could always find her way back to the start.

Maud wrapped it in brown paper and tied the string twice. The rain kept on, bending the lamps over the empty stalls, and the loop lay folded in her hand with no end showing.
