Infinity symbol on the inner wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small infinity symbol is drawn in thin black linework on the inner wrist, with the hand curled into a loose fist above it. The lines are even and uniform with no visible shading, and the ink is a single dark tone against pale skin. The tattoo sits near the centre of the frame against a plain, softly lit background.

Mrs Tennant had been sending the same jar of plum jam across the lane to the Pryces since the spring of 1952, and nobody in Lower Hasling could say who had started it. Each time it came back it carried something: a clothes peg, a brass button, once a half-crown folded small. The Pryces sent it over again with a hen's egg wrapped in the parish paper. Nobody wrote anything down.

When old Dai Pryce came off his ladder at the tithe barn, it was Mrs Tennant who sat with him on the cold flags until the doctor's car came up the hill. She did not mention the jam. He did not thank her. The following Monday the jar was back on her step, washed clean, with a sprig of rosemary tied round its neck in green wool, the wool crossed over itself into a figure of eight and drawn tight so it would not slip.
The schoolmaster said it was the sign for a thing with no end. Mrs Tennant said it was only her mother's knot, the one that holds when you pull from either side. She put the jar on the windowsill above the sink and left it there.
When she died in the winter of 1981, Dai was the one who went in to find it. The jar was still on the sill, dusted, the wool gone brown. He filled it with plums from his own tree, tied the knot the way he had watched her do it, and carried it across the lane without a word, the way the debt had always been paid.
