Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A drawn design of an infinity symbol, with the word you in cursive script inside the left loop and the word me in cursive script inside the right loop. The lines are smooth, solid and even in weight, with no shading. The design is a single flat dark grey on a plain white background, centred and wide in composition.

The road over Cold Hasp was cut for a single cart, and near the summit it crossed itself like a knot in string, so that a man travelling east and a woman travelling west could pass within a stone's throw and never meet. Ruth Ashdown had stood at that crossing four springs running, waiting for Owen Pryce, who carried salt up to the high farms and came back down with his mule, his tallow candles and his terrible jokes.

The old women at the inn below the pass said a shepherd had bent the road that way long ago. He had loved two sisters, could choose neither, and so he was made to walk the figure of eight for ever, never reaching the centre. Anyone who stood too long at the crossing, they said, would see him still, going round.
On the fifth spring Owen came up the western side and Ruth came down the eastern, and the crossing caught them both. Neither stepped onto the other's loop. Instead Ruth took a stick of chalk from her apron and wrote YOU on the flat stone at her feet, and Owen, grinning, wrote ME on his, and they sat either side of the cross with the mule between them and talked until the light went thin.
They stayed like that until the rain came and the chalk ran. When Owen left at dusk he reached his hand across the gap, the stone between their boots, and the mule took the long way round the outer loop to bring him home. Ruth still says the road is a bad one. But every spring she climbs up to see whether the words have washed away, and every spring she chalks them again.
