Infinity temporary tattoos and quartz points
Black and grey · Flash
The upper wooden bowl holds several white paper temporary tattoo cards, the front one showing a bold black outline infinity symbol with a uniform line weight. The lower bowl holds clear quartz crystal points, shown in a flat, evenly lit product-style composition. The image is in black and white ink with the crystals in neutral clear tones on a plain white background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The guard at Lessen Bridge lifts the wooden bowl from your passenger seat and tips it towards the light. Paper cards slide over one another, each one printed with the same black loop lying on its side. He picks one out with two fingers, turns it over, and asks what the crystals are for. You tell him the truth, which is that you bought them from a widow in the hills who said they would keep a fidgety driver calm on long roads. He doesn't ask what the cards are for, because the loop is plain enough and the bowl is plain enough, and a man at a border has learned to distrust anything that looks like it's trying to be clever.

He is bored, and boredom makes people generous. He peels the backing from the card, presses it to the inside of his own wrist, and rubs it with his thumb for a long moment. When he lifts it away the infinity sign is there in grey-black ink, a little smudged at one end, and he holds his arm out to the lamp as if it were a letter from someone he had forgotten. Behind him a lorry door bangs shut. He says his daughter wanted one like it last summer and he told her to wait until she was older, and now he has one of his own, and it seems the sort of thing a person can't take back.
He waves you through without looking at the crystals again. You drive the last kilometre with the bowl sliding on the seat, the quartz clicking against the wood, and you pull over under the first streetlight to check the glove box. One card is missing from the top of the stack. You find it tucked into the sun visor, the loop still sharp, the paper curled slightly at the corners as if it has been worn for a while.
