Let your Life Speak script lettering

Lettering · Black and grey · Flash

A black script design reads Let your Life Speak across the centre of a plain white background. The flowing, connected letters have tapering strokes and long looping tails, with the capital L and the L of Life extended into decorative flourishes. The design is solid black ink with no shading or colour, and the wording sits centred with generous white space around it.

Sit closer, the queue is not going anywhere, and the guard at the bridge has never once hurried for anybody. You want to hear about the man with the paper full of loops? Fellow called Tomas Hale came over the river with one suitcase and a grandmother's saying that nobody on either bank could make out. He said it in the old tongue, and the customs boy told him he had nothing to declare but his mouth.

Tomas was sent to wait in the hut with the stove that smoked. He spent three days there writing the saying out again and again, each time with longer tails on the letters, because his grandmother had always swept her pen like a kite string. Let your life speak, she used to tell him when he went quiet at the table. Not your mouth, Tomas. Your life.

On the third morning the boy came back with a stamp in one hand and a face that had been crying into his coat sleeve. His own mother had died on the far bank, and he had not been able to say the words over her grave. Tomas handed him the paper. The boy read it slowly, lips moving, then pressed the stamp down so hard the ink jumped, and waved the old man through with nothing more.

Now here is what I always tell the children. The paper is still in that hut, pinned behind the stove. Nobody knows the words but the two of them, and I have never asked which of them needed the saying more.
