Lotus and Gemini symbol on the neck
Neo-trad · Neck · Mixed · Photo
A pink and orange lotus flower with layered petals sits in front of a bold black Gemini zodiac symbol. Small black dots run vertically above and below the central motif. The black outlines are solid and even, and the petals are filled with flat colour that shades from pink to orange, against plain skin.

The moat below Harrowgate Keep had silted over the summer the twins turned twelve, and by autumn the water was thick with lotus, though nobody in the valley had ever seen one grow so far north. Ned and Tam Orrin had the same nose, the same cowlick and the same habit of finishing each other's sentences wrong. Their mother said they were born under the twin stars, and she meant it as a kindness until the day they both wanted the one pair of boots.

Tam went down the scree road to the sea towns and came back with a sailor's knife and a sunburn. Ned stayed in the keep, mending the bridge stones one at a time with lime and patience. Each Midsummer they met at the broken gate, and each Midsummer the lotus opened in the moat a little higher, pink at the heart and orange at the edge, as if the water were learning colour from them.
The old steward said a lotus only blooms where two things meet, and that the castle would fall the year the flowers stopped. So Ned, who was practical, loaded a barge with stones and laid the last course of the bridge himself. Tam, who was not, climbed the wall in the dark to see what his brother had built. They argued until the bell rang for prayers, and in the morning the bridge was whole and nobody could say whose hands had finished it.
Nobody in the valley ever decided which twin the flower belonged to. The keep still stands, roofless and quiet, and the lotus still comes up through the moat every summer, one half the colour of the sunset over the sea and the other half the colour of the fire in the hall.
