Matching heart and quote ankle tattoos
Lettering · Ankle · Mixed · Photo
Two feet are shown side by side, each with a line of black script lettering and a small solid purple heart. The top foot reads "I'll love you forever..." with the heart at the start, and the lower foot reads "...I'll like you for always" with the heart at the end. The lettering is crisp and even, the hearts are filled with purple ink, and the soft, evenly lit photo shows both tattoos clearly against pale skin.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Dora had mended nets on the quay since her father's boat went down the winter the herring failed, and nobody had ever written her a love note. So when Ned Pascoe slid a folded tally slip under her creel, she read it twice with the gulls screaming over the fish market. It said only, in careful pencil, I'll love you forever... and then a gap where a second line should have been.

She took it to the slipway, where he always sat mending his lines, and waited. A man who leaves a sentence half-finished owes you the rest. He came up the steps with salt in his beard and a second slip held out like a summons. It read: ...I'll like you for always. Dora laughed until she had to sit on an upturned bait box. "Like?" she said. "Nine winters I've put up with you, Ned Pascoe, and now it's like?"
He went red to the ears. "I wrote love first. Then Tam Nance needed a stub for his bet and I gave him the pencil, and he swore he'd only borrow it for a moment. I had to finish the thing with my own pen, and the ink was going." He looked at the harbour wall rather than at her. "Anyway, I meant every word of the first half."
Dora pinned the two slips together on the net loft wall, one above the other, the gap between them filled with a little drawn heart she did with the same stub. Years later, when people asked how she'd come to marry a man who could not hold a pencil, she would say the mistake had been the best thing he ever wrote, and then she would ask them to help her haul the boat up before the tide turned.
