Matching heartbeat and Sisters tattoos on feet
Fine line · Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Three bare feet are shown from the side, each with a matching fine line tattoo of a heart joined to a heartbeat trace, followed by the word Sisters in cursive script. The linework is thin and uniform in black ink, with no shading. The tattoos sit close to the ankle, and the soft lighting and angled view draw the eye along the three designs.

Dear Bea,

The Discovery trees gave their first fruit on Tuesday, and I stood under the eastern row with a bushel basket and your name in my mouth like a sweet I couldn't swallow. Mr Pryce from the cooperative came up the lane in his van to look at the press. He said the crop was light but sound, and then he asked after you, because everybody asks after you, and I told him you were still in Leeds and still not coming home for the harvest.
I found Dad's old ECG strip in the drawer under the bee smoker, the one the cardiologist gave him in March. It's folded in four and gone soft as cloth. You remember how he traced the wavy line with his finger and said it looked like the ridge behind Clun when you're tired of walking it. He drew a heart at the start of it in biro, and underneath, in capitals, SISTERS, because he said we'd always be the two lines that kept going.
Come up on the Saturday. Bring the old knife. The windfalls are splitting in the grass and the wasps are drunk on them, and I can't pick the last of the Bramleys on my own without talking to the trees.
Love, Maud
