Matching infinity and paw print wrist tattoos

Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

Two arms are shown side by side, each with the same tattoo: a bold black infinity symbol with three paw prints above and to the left. The linework is solid and even, with the infinity loop drawn as a double stroke that crosses over itself. The image is entirely black and grey, and the tattoos sit centrally on the inner wrist, with a soft dark background framing both arms.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit down, sit down, and mind the gull on that bollard. You want the tale of Moss and Tansy, not the one about the mayor's cat, which is nonsense. Moss and Tansy were collies, sisters from the same litter, born in the loft above the fish market where the Pascoe boys kept their nets. They were never apart, and they never once walked in a straight line.

Every morning they ran the harbour the same way. Out along the north wall, past the lifeboat slip, down the slick steps to the sand bar, then back up the south quay and round again, so that anyone watching from the Ship Inn would swear the pair of them were drawing a figure eight on the map of the town with their feet. Old Hensley swore it was the sign of the sideways number, the one the chapel windows have. Nobody argued with Hensley. He had buried two wives and a dog.

The winter the breakwater cracked, the sea took the north wall in one black night. Tansy went out at dawn to look for the gap, and the tide came in faster than the tide ought. Moss went after her, round and round the quay as if she could walk the loop backwards and find her sister at its middle. She found her on the third turn, half under the weed by the slip.

Now here is the thing I tell the children. Where those two dogs ran, the damp stone still holds their prints, four toes and a pad, going round the harbour without end. Go down at low water and try to find where it starts. You won't. Go on, lad, I'll wait.
