Matching infinity heart tattoos on forearms
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two forearms are shown side by side, each with a black outlined heart that loops into an infinity symbol, with script lettering above it. The left reads My Brother's Keeper and the right reads My Sisters Protector. The linework is solid and even, with no shading, and the ink is black on skin tones with a patterned fabric and a purple and white sock visible at the edges.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Come closer, the pair of you, and mind the lift, it still smells of the last lot's cigarettes. Fourteenth floor, Harrow House, where the wind comes up the stairwell like it owes someone money. My nan told me this on the same landing, and her nan before her, though the story got a bit taller every time it went down the stairs.

There were two children in flat 14C, Dennis and Ruth Okafor-Pryce, though nobody on the estate bothered with the double name. Dennis was the one who waited at the bus stop with his sister's school bag over his shoulder. Ruth was the one who took the stairs two at a time when the lift broke, which was most Tuesdays, and who shouted down at any lad who laughed at Dennis's limp. Their mum worked nights at the laundry on Cross Lane, so each of them had a job, and each knew the other was doing theirs.
The winter the boiler gave up, Dennis walked Ruth down to the old pump house by the canal, because she'd heard the men there had a spare heater. A dog came snarling out of the reeds. Ruth stepped in front of him, and Dennis hauled her back by the collar of her coat. Neither of them told their mum. That was the deal, my nan always said: you keep your brother, you protect your sister, and the loop never breaks.
So that's where the mark came from. Ruth scratched a heart into the pump house door with a bent nail, Dennis drew the endless line through it, and somebody, nobody's sure who, carved the words above in letters nobody could spell. The door's gone now, pulled off for scrap. The heart's still there, if you know where to look. Go on, the lift's back. Mind the step.
