Matching Mickey and Minnie Mouse back tattoos
Back · Colour · Photo
Two people are shown from behind, their shoulders and upper backs in frame, with their heads mostly out of view as they kiss. Each has a cartoon tattoo of a Disney character, Minnie Mouse on the left and Mickey Mouse on the right, drawn with bold dark outlines and flat fills. The colour is bright, with Minnie's red polka-dot bow and shoes and Mickey's blue body and red shorts, set against lightly lit skin and a blurred green background.

The other grinned in red shorts, one white-gloved hand lifted as though he had just remembered a joke.

'Those are the dancing ones,' said Dev, leaning over her shoulder. 'My nan had them on a tea towel.'
The driver, a broad man called Aurel, said they were a wedding present for a fellow in Calais who had asked for them specifically, and that the painter had charged him in cigarettes and two bottles of plum brandy. Nell turned the nearer board over. On the back, in pencil gone silver with age, someone had written a single line: they face each other when nobody is looking. Below it was a date, 1979, and a name she couldn't read.
She checked the seals, the duty and the paperwork, which was all in order. Then she stood in the cold shed a moment longer than she needed to, watching the two mice lean in toward each other across the crate, as if the boards had been built for that and nothing else. She stamped the form, handed it back, and told Aurel to mind the corners.
