Matching paw tattoos on both feet
Dotwork · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two matching tattoos of animal paws cover the tops of both bare feet, each with claws at the toes and an ornamental pattern above the pads. The shading uses fine stippled dots on the pads and bold black fills and linework on the ornate upper section. The image is black and grey, shot top-down against a dark leather surface with black toenail polish visible.

The circus had been dying for three winters, and everyone in the caravans knew it, but nobody said so while the ringmaster was sober. Old Tobiah Rook kept the last bear in a wagon painted with faded gold, and he fed her on scraps from the fish market at Wellhaven, because she was the only thing left that still made the children clap.

The bear was called Morrow. Her paws were broad as dinner plates, and her claws had been rasped down by a farrier each spring so they would not tear the canvas. When the rain came sideways off the marsh, Morrow would stand on her hind legs and press her forepaws to the bars, and the ornaments on her pads would show in the lamplight, swirling ferns copied long ago from a church door by a painter who had since drowned.
One night a stranger with a leather satchel offered Tobiah a sum of silver for the bear and said she would be happier in the hills. Tobiah counted the coins twice. Then he went out to the wagon and found Morrow sitting with her paws tucked beneath her, looking at the empty field where the big top used to stand.
He gave the silver back in the morning. In the spring the circus put up its last tent, and the bear walked the ring on her hind legs. The handbills said the crowd was small, but the children, who had seen nothing else all year, clapped until their hands stung.
