Matching pi symbol wrist tattoos

Fine line · Other · Black and grey · Photo

Two wrists show near-identical tattoos of the Greek letter pi, each with a small outlined heart at the top right of the right-hand stroke. The pi strokes are solid black with slightly tapered ends, while the heart is drawn in a thin single line. The photograph is taken at close range against a plain skin background, with the two designs placed side by side.

The number went on forever, which was the whole trouble. Three digits in, it had been a comfort. Now it was a rumour.

She had a habit of drawing the Greek letter in the margins of everything, the two legs planted like a table that refused to be level, and at the top corner of the right-hand stroke a small heart she never explained. Tomas asked about it once, in their first year, and she said it was for the circle, which was round in the way that counted, and he had not known whether she was joking. He still did not know. That was one of the things he had kept.

On Friday she rubbed out the board at last, not the proof, only the chalk dust, and found the mistake in her own handwriting at the bottom of the first page, a sign flipped where a sign should not be. She laughed until she had to sit on a desk. Tomas walked over, turned her left wrist towards the strip light, and drew the letter there in biro, heart and all, so that the next time she checked her working she would have something to point at that was not a number.
