Overlapping circles with rainbow accents on forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows a symmetrical design of overlapping circles drawn in thin black linework, forming a rounded geometric pattern. A vertical line of small filled shapes runs through the centre, shaded violet, blue, teal, green, yellow, orange and red. The photo is taken straight on against a wooden floor, with the design filling most of the frame.

Now sit down, the lot of you, and leave that kettle be, because this is the business of Albert Pyle and the seven glass beads. You'll have heard it told wrong at the Crown, with a barmaid in it and a dog that talks. There was no barmaid. There was only the chapel floor at Harrow Wick, and Albert on his knees on it with a pair of compasses borrowed off Mr Hollis the schoolmaster, and not one of us could get him up.

His father had made the lamp glass for that chapel for thirty years, and when the old man died, Albert inherited the furnace, the debts, and a habit of drawing circles. He drew them in chalk on the flagstones, each ring with its middle fixed on the middle of the next, until the floor looked like a fishing net somebody had dropped in the dark. Three nights he did it. Then he went home and came back with his mother's jar from the dresser, the one with the sea glass in it, and he picked out seven pieces, violet, blue, teal, green, yellow, orange and red, and laid them down one by one along the central line, from the top of the pattern to the bottom.
The vicar came in on the Saturday to see about the brass, found the floor, and said it would be scrubbed before Sunday. Albert said nothing. Then the sun came in low through the west window and slid along the flags, and it lit those beads one after another, so the violet caught first and the red last, burning in the final square of light. The vicar stood in the doorway a long while. He never did fetch the bucket.
