Paw print tattoo on the side ribs
Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
The image is a split view showing a paw print tattoo on the side of a torso, with a wider view on the left and a close-up on the right. The four toe pads and the main pad are filled with dense black ink and softer grey shading that gives them a slightly textured, blurred edge. The background is plain skin with a light grey bra strap visible on the left, and the lighting is soft and even.

"Leave it," said Mrs Okonedo from the hatch. She had signed on as cook and stayed on as everything else, and she had the sort of face that had outlasted three captains. "Nobody reads that book but the next man who needs to know where we've been."
The weather turned off Rockall two days later. Harrity remembered the gap in the rail, the grey water closing over the dog's bark in one long swallow, and how the ship had kept her course because that was the rule. Afterwards he found the logbook still lying on the chart table, its damp page dotted with a row of small black pads. He could not bring himself to turn over the page.
At Hull that spring he carried the book ashore under his arm. When the new lads asked whose prints they were, he opened it flat on the quay wall and told them the same thing every time: four legs, one watch, and never once late for his duties.
