Realistic pistol with lace garter on the thigh
Realism · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A detailed pistol is shown in profile, angled diagonally across the upper leg, with its grip and slide clearly rendered. A band of ornate black lace-style patterning wraps around the skin and passes behind the gun, creating a garter effect. The piece uses smooth shading and fine highlights in greys and black on a light skin tone, with a plain background.

The gun came across the counter on a Thursday, wrapped in a length of black lace, and Arthur Haddon did not want to unwrap it. Lace has a way of making a pawnbroker careful. He turned the bundle over with two fingers, felt the weight of steel under the cloth, and asked the woman what she wanted for it.

Her name was Edie Marsh and she lived above the chandler's on Quay Street. She said the pistol had belonged to her husband, who had come home from the war with it and nothing else worth keeping. She wanted twelve shillings for the rent. She wanted the lace left on. When Haddon asked why, she only said it was the one pretty thing the house had ever had, and that the gun had never been fired at anything that mattered.
He lent her the money and wrote the ticket. Gun, one, black, with lace, the lace not to be removed. He hung the bundle on the brass hook behind the till, where the light from the window could reach it in the afternoons.
The ticket was never redeemed. Some months later a young constable came in asking about stolen goods, and Haddon, ashamed of himself for lying, said he had nothing of the kind. That evening he stood at the till a long while, looking at the lace where the grey steel showed through its holes like a face through a veil, and he thought that Edie Marsh had known exactly what she was doing when she asked for the lace to stay on.
