Rebel Alliance symbol over a desert sunset

Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo

The tattoo shows the Rebel Alliance symbol in solid black across the top of a circular panel. Inside the circle, a purple, pink and orange sunset sits behind a desert landscape with rounded, domed dwellings, cactus-like shapes, a dark standing figure and two small suns. The black outlines are bold, with soft colour shading in the sky and sand and a teal tone on the buildings.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The fair came over the dunes the week the second sun rose late, and it pitched its striped tents below the cliff where the old families had cut their homes into the rock. Mrs Hesper Vane ran the ring toss herself. Her prizes were glass balls, red and gold, and young Dov Ashby, who had never seen anything so bright, spent every coin his grandmother gave him trying to win one.

On the last evening he finally knocked a ball off its post with a wooden stick. Mrs Vane did not smile. She looked past him to the ridge, where a tall dark figure stood alone in a long coat, its hood never turning toward the tents. 'Him? He gathers what the fair leaves behind,' she said, and she wrapped the glass in a scrap of blue cloth and pressed it into his hands.

Next morning the wagons were gone before dawn, leaving only ruts in the sand and the domed houses with their doors painted teal against the heat. Dov's grandmother said the fair always left at the second sunrise and never stayed to see the first. He carried the glass to the cliff edge and held it up to the evening sky, where purple and orange light ran over the dunes. Inside the ball, small and clear, the ridge stood empty, and far off a line of wagons rolled on, and the figure had turned to look back at him.
