Salt in the air, sand in my hair script
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows two lines of handwritten cursive script in black ink on a plain white background, reading Salt in the air and Sand in my hair. The strokes are thin and even, with loose looping capitals and connecting flourishes. The composition is centred with generous white space around the text, as in a stencil or flash design.

I have moved into your room above the net loft, the one with the crooked skylight. From the bed I can see the harbour wall and the boats coming in low in the water. Dad would have been sitting on the step mending the same net for the third time this season. The solicitor's letter arrived on Thursday. The cottage is ours to sell or keep, and I cannot decide which is harder. Each morning I walk the strand before the gulls wake, and each morning there is a new line of cockle shells where the water drew back, as though someone out there is counting the days for me.
Yesterday I found your old bucket wedged in the dunes, full of wet sand and one blue glass float. I have put the float on the windowsill, where the light comes through it green and makes the whole room look underwater. Come home when you can. Bring a comb. The wind has done terrible things to my hair.
