Script and poppy on the shoulder
Fine line · Shoulder · Mixed · Photo
A fine black script word runs diagonally across the upper shoulder towards the collarbone, ending in a small pink poppy with a loose blue-green wash. The linework is thin and even, and the colour is soft and slightly faded at the edges of the petals. The tattoo sits in the centre of the frame against plain, lightly lit skin, with the subject's hair visible at the top left.

The queen's steward came down from Caerlune on Tuesday with a ledger and a face like wet slate. He wants the red fields ploughed under before the spring fair, because the dyers in the lower town say the petals bleed into the millrace and turn the cloth. I have kept back a single head from the last row by the mill, wrapped in my good scarf, and I will bring it when I come to the coast. Tell the boatwright the word on the stern is still wanted, and that I am not the one who painted it out.
Plant the seed in the lighthouse garden, as we promised. I have written the name on the paper twice so the wind cannot take it, and I have underlined it in blue, the colour of the water at the harbour mouth in March.
