Script quote across upper back
Lettering · Back · Black and grey · Photo
The image shows a black script quotation across the upper back, set in two lines and running from the shoulder blade towards the spine. The letters are formed with fine, even linework and solid black ink, with no shading or additional imagery. The skin around the lettering is pink and slightly raised, which suggests the tattoo is fresh or still healing, and the background is softly out of focus.

Sit down, the lot of you, and mind the goat. No, not that one, the one with the bell. Now, you'll have heard the saying about lions, and heard the sheep repeat it while they trample your turnips. This is how it came about, as my grandmother told it. She had it from a cheese seller at the top of the Kessel Pass who swore on her teeth it was true.

The lion was called Orrin then, and he came over the pass in deep snow, thin as a fence post, because the high grass had died. The shepherds went white at the sight of him. They gathered at the wall with their crooks and dogs and argued all night about the flock, while the sheep argued back in the way sheep do, by standing very close together and bleating about nothing.
Orrin lay down in the snow beside the wall and slept. He slept through the first argument and the second, and by dawn the shepherds were hoarse and the dogs had gone off to bed. When Marit, the eldest, walked up in her blue shawl and asked what he intended, he yawned and said, 'I intend to sleep. You may do as you please with your flock, but I have never lost a night over what a sheep thinks of me.'
Marit went back down and told the others. Nobody spoke for a long while. Then she walked to the wall and laid her blue shawl over the lion's back, and went home to her bed. When the sun came up the lion had gone, the shawl was folded neatly on the stones, and the sheep, for once, had nothing to say.
