I still don't think she was right. But I found her handwriting in the back of the feed book this morning, the same looping capitals, and a list of things she meant to do before Christmas that she never got to.

So I'm selling the Suffolks in March and keeping the old cob for you, if you ever want him back. You'll think that's soft. It probably is. Write when the ground softens, or don't, but I've put a small heart at the end of this, the way she used to on your lunch notes, so you know I mean it kindly.
