Script quote tattoo on a foot
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two bare feet are raised against a plain white wall, with one foot turned to show a black script tattoo on its outer side. The words To live is to love are written in a thin, handwritten lettering with smooth, even linework. The photograph is in natural tones with pale skin, black ink and the coral nail polish as the only bright colour.

Your brother swears he will never forgive him, but he laughed so hard he nearly lost his hat.

I found the old printer's shop in Hereford you wrote about. The man there is ninety if he is a day, with ink up to his elbows and a cough like a dropped anvil. He had a case of loose type on his bench, half of it bent, and he let me set a line myself. I chose the words you always used to paint on the inside of your cupboard door when we were girls: To live is to love. He spelled it with an extra letter I didn't ask for, and I was too tired to argue, so it stays as he made it.
I am sending you the proof with this letter, pressed flat between two boards so the ink won't smudge. Keep it somewhere the children can't reach. Write back before the frost, and tell me whether the apples came in as the vicar predicted, for I will not believe a word of it until you do.
