Small Eiffel Tower finger tattoos

Fine line · Hand · Black and grey · Photo

Two small Eiffel Tower tattoos sit on separate fingers of hands held together against a dark background. The solid black linework is simple and delicate, with no shading, and the towers appear slightly angled as they follow the shape of each finger. The photograph is in black and white, and a diamond ring is visible on one finger.

Dear Ysolde, you will not believe what Master Corvane made me do this week. The Duke's cartographer came to the workshop wanting two small iron towers, each no taller than a thimble, to be worked into the lids of the betrothal caskets. Corvane said the cartographer's chain was too fussy and the rivets would never hold, so he gave the job to me, his youngest, and told me to make the towers as thin as a cat's whisker and to hammer them flat so they would sit on a finger without catching.

I spent four nights at the bench under the north window. The first tower came out crooked, leaning like a drunk sentry, and I threw it in the coal scuttle. The second I kept. It stood straight, narrow at the crown, with two little cross-struts at the waist, and when I held it against my knuckle it looked exactly like the tower the old king built on the Lisse marshes to watch for ships that never came. Corvane studied it for a long while and said nothing, which is his way of praising.

The cartographer's sweetheart and the cartographer's brother both came to collect their pieces on Saturday, and I was sweeping the floor when they held out their hands to be fitted. Neither flinched. The brother laughed and said the towers would have to be inked on properly in the spring, when the ink-woman came through with her needles. I did not understand him then. I do now, because they are already wearing them, and the Duke has closed the marshes to everyone but the bridge-watch. Write back soon and tell me whether the river is still high.

Yours in haste, Mirelle
