Small footprints tattoo on wrist, shown under UV light
Fine line · Other · Mixed · Photo
The left panel shows two small, solid black shapes resembling footprints on the inner wrist, with clean edges and no shading. The right panel is photographed under ultraviolet light, where a line of fluorescent blue lettering in a handwritten style is visible on the skin around the same spot. The plain background and close framing keep the focus on the small marks.

You leave the flour prints first, because Mrs Abernethy checks the back step before she checks anything else. Two small footprints in the dust by the bakehouse door, toes pointing the wrong way on purpose, so anyone following will think the baker's boy went out rather than in.

The plan lives on your wrist. You wrote it with the ultraviolet pen Dilys sold you for a quid, in letters nobody can see under the strip lights: the order of the bolts, the hour the night watchman takes his tea, the loose board by the sink. You check it four times in the blue glow of the oven's pilot light, the words fading and sharpening again under your thumb like they're breathing.
The shutters on the cake shop next door stick at the second hinge. You lever them up with a butter knife wrapped in a tea towel, and the window gives as if it has been waiting all year for someone to ask nicely. Inside there is the smell of cloves and burnt sugar, the Dundee cake the vicar ordered for Sunday, and the brass scales you were never allowed to touch.
You take nothing but the thing you came for: the recipe book with the cracked green spine. You copy the lemon curd page onto your forearm in ink nobody will find until morning. By dawn the cake is still on its stand, the tea is still cold, and only you know that the vicar's sweetest Sunday has been quietly rewritten in your own hand.
