Small Hebrew lettering on the inner wrist
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A small tattoo of three Hebrew letters in a solid black, sans-serif style sits on the inner wrist, with two small dots beneath the letters. The lines are crisp and even, and the ink is black with no colour. The hand is raised at the top of the frame against a plain, pale fabric background, and the tattoo sits centrally on the forearm.

Rob Haig had borrowed her fountain pen in 1989 and never given it back, and at the school gates he had sworn he would pay her the fiver he owed for the bus. Tonight he was telling anyone within earshot about his boat.

Her cousin Naomi had taught her a word years ago, when they worked the Saturday till at their uncle's shop. Chasal, Naomi had said, tapping a settled invoice with one nail. It meant finished, done, the account closed and the drawer shut. Gwen had never needed it until the moment she saw Rob reach for the last sausage roll with the same easy hand that had once reached for her pen.
She took a beer mat from the bar, found a biro in her handbag, and wrote the word in small, square capitals, the way Naomi had taught her to write figures. Then she added two dots beneath it, one for each pound Rob had never paid her back, though she knew the sum was really about forty years and not much money at all.
She slid the mat across the table to him as the DJ started on Dancing Queen. Rob read it, frowned, then laughed a little too loudly. Gwen picked up her coat and left him the sausage roll.
