Tiny black outline heart tattoo on the inner wrist of a raised arm, in a fine line style.

Small outline heart on the inner wrist

Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A small heart drawn in a single thin black outline sits on the inner wrist of a raised arm. The linework is clean and even, with no shading inside the shape. The background is a blurred street scene with a dark jacket and a chain strap, and the photo shows only the arm and hair, with no face visible.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Hush now, leave the second lamp unlit, you'll want the dark for this bit. Out past Quern Wells, where the Saltpan Road bends like a dropped ribbon, there was a tinsmith called Obed Harrow who could cut a heart out of sheet tin with nothing but snips and a steady hand. He made them for every carrier who came through, small things to hang from a mule's bridle, and he never charged for the shape, only for the pinch of solder.

One spring a girl came up the road with a cart of brass fittings and a face like weather coming in. She asked him for a heart with nothing inside it. Obed said that was a queer order for tin. She said her brother had gone to the coast for work and she'd come back to fill it when he returned. So Obed traced the outline on the inside of her wrist with a single thin line of ink, because that was all the ink he had, and he cut the tin to match.

Her brother never came up the road. The cart sat in Quern Wells for eleven summers, and Obed kept the heart in the window where the sun could catch its edges. Every traveller who asked what the empty middle was for got the same answer: it was waiting for a name.

So when the wind drags the sand over the tracks and you hear tin ticking against a bridle in the dark, don't go looking for the rider. The heart is still hanging there, open at the middle, and nobody has ever agreed on what it was meant to hold. Now blow that lamp out, and mind the road.
