I found the seal box while I was looking for the ribbon. You remember it, the tin with the broken hinge. Inside, wrapped in a handkerchief, is the little brass stamp he cut himself from a shilling's worth of metal the winter he was courting Mum. It makes a heart no bigger than a lentil. He pressed it onto every letter he ever wrote her, and she kept all of them with the wax still on, which is how I know he could never spell "necessary" and never once got the corners straight.

I have melted a stick of red wax over the candle and stamped one for your envelope. It came out a bit lopsided, the way his always did. Do not fuss over it. Tuck it under the ribbon on the place cards tomorrow, and when he reads his, he will know it came from us.
