Let me tell you about the wall at the end of the harbour. Somebody has painted two small birds on it, one white and one dark red, with words underneath in letters that run downhill as if they are tired of standing up. I have walked past it every morning for a month trying to read them. Last night I finally did. It says come back before the wind turns. That is all. No name, no date. I have decided it is yours.
So I am writing to say the wind has turned, and I am going to stand here until the boats come in.
