Sphynx cat and roses on a thigh
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
A hairless sphynx cat with gold chains and a sun pendant sits at the centre of the design, framed by pink roses and green leaves. Bold black outlines define the cat, flowers and the script lettering above, which reads Stay Loyal Tell No Lies, while soft teal, yellow and pink shading fills the forms. The design is arranged vertically along the outer thigh, with the lettering and foliage extending up toward the top of the leg.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Edie had been at Harrow Lane for three weeks before the cat looked at her properly. It sat on the wall above the rose beds like a small grey lamp, hairless and freckled, with a row of brass chains hanging from its neck and a little gold sun swinging against its chest whenever it moved. Mrs Okonedo, who owned the house and rarely left its back bedroom, called the cat Sunday. She goes where the truth is, the old woman had said, and Edie had laughed, because it was the sort of thing old women said about cats.

On the Thursday, Edie snapped the crown off the Madame Isaac Pereire she had been told not to touch, and stood over the broken stem with her heart knocking. She told Mrs Okonedo the wind had done it. Sunday jumped down from the wall, walked the length of the path with her tail held straight up, and sat on the far side of the gate with her back to the house. She did not come back for two days.
On the third morning Edie went out with a cup of tea going cold in her hands and said, to the cat and nobody else, that it had been her. The bloom was gone, and the shame was worse than the loss. Sunday turned her head, the gold sun catching the light, and padded back across the gravel. She climbed into the pink blossoms and settled among them as if they had been planted for her alone. Above the gate, the old carved words had gone soft with rain, but Edie could still read them, and she read them twice before going to fetch the secateurs.
