Stay weird UFO tattoo
Traditional · Other · Colour · Photo
A flying saucer with a teal dome and red and yellow details sits beneath a purple cloud that reads STAY WEIRD in block capitals. Rainbow beams drop from the saucer, filled with asterisk shapes, and the design is surrounded by stars, a small ringed planet and an orange crescent moon. Bold black outlines contrast with the bright, flat colour fills on healed-looking skin.

Forgive the smudged ink. Brother Anselm has taken to rapping the scriptorium table with his knuckles whenever I write, so you will have to make do with a shaky hand. The saucer came down on Tuesday, at the hour of Sext, hovering over the beehives like a teal cake tin someone had forgotten to put a lid on. Its dome had red and yellow buttons that blinked in no order I could make out. Abbot Gerald knelt in the lavender and would not get up until Vespers.
The beams were the real trouble. Three rainbow columns dropped from its belly and went straight through the orchard, wobbling like hot tar in July, and every stripe of them was dotted with little black asterisks that drifted down the rays as if someone were sifting pepper. Brother Tobias tried to catch one in a jar. It stayed in the jar, glowing faintly, and he has been reading the psalms to it since, because he says it looks lonely.
On the Thursday it lifted off without a sound, scattering the bees in a fan of gold. Left behind on the wall of the cloister was a purple cloud, painted in the wet, and across it, in perfectly square capitals, the words STAY WEIRD. Nobody here has admitted to writing it. The abbot says it is a sign. Brother Tobias says it is a complaint about the soup.
I have pressed a sprig of the lavender into this letter. Keep it in your Bible at the page of Ruth, or burn it once you have read this, whichever you find more becoming. Pray for us, and do not believe the rumours from Ely.
Yours in the peculiar light, Brother Edmund
