Get in Loser UFO on a lower leg
Traditional · Calf · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a flying saucer with a domed top, a small antenna, and four vertical light beams falling below it, with the words GET IN LOSER arched above in bold block capitals. Four-pointed and dotted stars surround the saucer on both sides. The linework is solid and bold, with simple grey shading on the dome and underside and untouched skin used as highlights on the beams and stars. The design is centred in the frame against a dark background.

The saucer came down over the car park on the Tuesday after Kieron Mills told the whole bus that my mum still ironed my school shirts. I was on the walkway outside flat 41, eating a bag of Monster Munch and pretending I didn't care, when the light began to fall like someone had tipped a bucket of milk off the roof of Ashcroft House.

It hung level with the fourth floor, humming so hard I felt it in my fillings. Four white beams reached down and stopped just short of the bins. Then a hatch slid open in the dome and a voice, flat and cheerful as a school tannoy, leaned out. "Oi. You. Get in, loser."
I checked behind me. Nobody. Mrs Okafor's washing was flapping, the lift was broken again, and the saucer waited with the patience of something that had seen a lot of council estates. "I'm not a loser," I said. "Yeah, that's what they all say," it replied, and honestly, after forty minutes sat on that walkway, I couldn't argue.
I stepped onto the nearest beam, which was warm and smelled of toast, and rose past the balconies at a height where the telly aerials looked like hairpins. We slid over the playing fields, over the Co-op, over Kieron's street, where his mum was pegging out sheets and squinting up. The saucer dipped its light at her, very politely. When it set me down by the bins again, my shirt was still ironed, but I stood a little straighter, which Mum said was all she'd ever wanted anyway.
