Tattooed legs with script, roses and lace

Botanical · Calf · Mixed · Photo

Two legs are raised against a pale wall, with the lower legs and feet covered in tattoos. The shins carry blocks of fine black script, a grey lace-like floral design and a black and grey ornamental piece, while the right calf has pink roses and a peony in colour with teal and green shading. The shot is framed close and straight on, with the bath edge visible at the bottom of the frame.

The girl at the gate of the rectory garden was perhaps nineteen, with a jar of pins in one fist and a sketch of a rose folded in the other. She asked whether the peony would take in shade. Margaret said it would take almost anything if you left it alone, then felt foolish, because she had never once left anything alone in her life.

Then she went back inside and wrote the new line in the ledger: Peony, pink, third chance, collected by the girl from the rectory, paid in full. Underneath it, in smaller letters, she added the date.
